What You May Not Have Known...

Over the course of the past few nights, several Conference Tournaments have reached conclusion without the benefit of the Buffet. THE NERVE.

But, here's some tidbits you may not have known.

Davidson has qualified for the tournament. This you know.

They did by finishing the Southern Conference Regular Season & Tournament at 23-0. That you may not have known.

They might as well have called the Charleston-based SoCon tournament the Big Tank Job. I mean really...

A tournament only he could love...

Or maybe them...

Or maybe Stephen Curry's family.

Davidson raced through the tournament like they had somewhere to be on Tuesday night, or maybe they just didn't want anyone to catch on to the conference-wide ruse. I mean, could their Southern Conference "rivals" have cooperated anymore. Following Friday's opening "round," -- every game (except those that featured Davidson) saw the bottom seed come up victorious (#5 Greensboro over #4 Appalachian St 63-46; #7 Elon over #2 Chattanooga 60-57; #6 College of Charleston over #3 Georgia Southern 87-73 -- followed by #7 Elon dropping host CofC 75-61)...
Of course, the Buffet brings this "news" fully tongue in cheek, but that could not have been easier for a team that had they stumbled would have been in sauna, sweating Sunday, March 16 out with Anthony Grant, Eric Maynor, Osiris Eldridge; Demetric Bennet and Dominic Tilford ... instead, we got treated to the Stephen Curry show, which folks, makes for some quality programming. 19 points and 3 rebounds against Woford (33 pt victory); 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists versus NC-Greensboro (30 point win against the highest ranked SoCon team they faced all weekend), and 23 more with 5 rebounds in the 16 point win clinching the championship.
Also, cool, on Monday night, two members of the Rossiter family qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Ryan Rossiter, guard for Siena, who clearly did not look passed Rider -- and Stephen, a 6'7 sophomore forward on Davidson. Who, incidentially, clearly is the favorite child, as the brothers' parents were in Charleston following Davidson, and not Albany (and, incidentally, the family is from Staten Island and not the South)
**Buffet Ramble: Moment of Truth -- The Buffet hates the previews of this show. It hates the premise of this show. It hates the people that go on the show. And, apologies to our readers, but we hate the people who are watching this show and keeping it on the air. At least, American Idol provides singers. You know, musical talent. But these idiots who keep either ruining their marriages or putting all of us on, enough. Go off the air. We thought the writer's strike ended.**
Out West, March's best chokers now that Billy Donovan stopped Florida from saving their best basketball for November were at it again. Apparently, when Billy Grier moved south he brought with Mark Few's innate ability to only have his team prepared for teams presumably better than him.
The long-time Gonzaga assistant, aided by what looked like a 1/3 filled home arena for the epic semifinal comeback against St. Mary's on Sunday night, and then, apparently, Nick Faneca of the San Diego Union Tribune reminded people, hey Marty Schottenheimer was fired, the Padres are in Phoenix, and the Clippers moved the Los Angeles -- there's a college basketball in town, maybe we ought to go -- and the Jenny Craig Pavilion packed on the pounds, hosting a raucous crowd, and this time a Jones-fueled cult didn't end in tragedy, instead fans were storming the court and the West Coast Conference now stares down 3 bids to the NCAA tournament ... and, (knowing all the Buffet readers regular check rosters and eligibility) you read right, San Diego has ZERO seniors on its roster, Billy Grier WILL take over the WCC, even if they are randomly -- despite having ZERO teams in the area -- playing the 2009 WCC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Free money? Even WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich (sworn in on Sunday) seems to appreciate what it can do for you...
Also evident, not only is Gonzaga soft, they have no Derek Raivio. They don't even have someone impersonating Derek Raivio ... Jeremy Pargo isn't a PG.
Sean Sutton really likes the NCAA Tournament. Sean Sutton is also a much better coach than his father or brother ... sure seems like it, his Golden Eagles are headed back to the party for the third straight year ... led by all-namers Yemi Ogunoye, Moises Ahambe, and Adam Liberty -- the Golden Eagles, on some people's (but not the Buffet's) Waiting Line (or "Bubble") discussi.on earlier is poised to be awarded its best seed in its 3 year run.
