The Big 10 Tournament or the first half of the Morgan St./Delware St. MEAC semi-final?
Update on the goings-on today:
Texas ended Oklahoma St.'s brief Buffet-hopes, but in the process may have damaged their own tournament chances. Freshman Gary Johnson suffered what appears to be a high-ankle sprain (x-rays were negative, he's listed as day-today) in the first half of the game. Texas barely plays more than 6 players as it is (The Buffet considered Alexis Wangmene, Clint Chapman, Dexter Pittman, and JD Lewis to all be one player) ... more on this injury as it develops.
A pair of halves that can only be described as offensive clinics (26-18 and 25-16) saw Wisconsin beat Michigan 51-34;
North Carolina may have taken Florida State's plate out of their hands in an 82-70 win;
Tennessee survived a #1 seed extinction, sweating by South Carolina 89-87
Virginia Tech is officially applying to become the 2008 version of Arkansas, with their relatively impressive 63-49 win over previously scorching hot Miami (Fl), whom the Buffet sees as in the tourney without a problem.
Ohio St. Ohio St. Ohio St. Some thing they are fine. The Buffet wonders why. It is nice and all to schedule well. It's better to win. the Buckeyes didn't today (falling 67-60 to Sparty) and leaving Sunday open to stress.
Oklahoma kept its tourney hopes in check, they are most likely a lock now, by staving off another Richard Roby show, in a 54-49.
In the 2nd best performance by a possible bubble team (West Virginia over UConn being #1), Arkansas shook any doubt, getting 18 each from Darian Townes and Gary Ervin, outrebounding Vanderbilt 45-24 and outscoring them in the paint 50-20 to the tune of a 81-75 upset victory. Well done.
Each day the Buffet becomes more and more convinced that the C-USA and the SWAC would be indistinguishable if not for the presence of Memphis, a ho-hum 16 point win over Southern Miss today, and the Tigers are semifinal bound. Louisville, Cincy, DePaul -- come back!
What does 1 part patriotism, 2 parts Journey, and equal parts Garrison Carr and Brian Gilmore equal? The first bid to the NCAA tournament since joining Division 1 in 1967 for American. Colored red, white, blue, blaring "Don't Stop Believin'" in their home gym (awesome), and getting 17 points from Garrison Carr and 11 points and a key steal from Brian Gilmore as American beat Colgate, Aquafresh & Crest, 52-46 (the snails might apply here as well, to be fair)
Finally, Todd Bozeman Watch -- 11:00 remaining in the 2nd half, Morgan St up 27-26 to Delaware State -- not an offensive festival, but Boubacar Coly just provided the "FLUSH" to give Morgan St their first lead of the game. True or False: the Buffet is listening to the game during production of the Buffet Blog & execution of the Editor's Job.
